Upcoming shows

A reminder of a few upcoming shows:

CHANNEL 10
The Bachelor with Matty.

CHANNEL 10
Australian Survivor Season 2

CHANNEL 9
Family Food Fight

Nine were smart to nick Anna P after her stellar performances on MasterChef. This one probably won’t screen for a few months as it’s still in production. Actually, Matt and Hayden are both ex-MasterChef, while Tom was on Nine’s ill-fated Hot Plate.

SEVEN
Little Big Shots

Hosted by Shane “Kenny” Jacobsen, this is a kids’ talent show, without the scoring.
Premiers Sunday night most likely in the 7pm slot left vacant by House Rules.

General chat – Sat, July 1

What’s everyone watching? I did a big Netflix binge of GLOW last night – the new dramedy starring Alison Brie, based on the 1980s women’s wrestling show. Think Hulk Hogan or Ric Flair, but with chicks. Good lightweight viewing and I love the 80s soundtrack, but not the flashbacks of my bouffy hair or gym lycra.

Mr Juz is also making me watching the new TV show The Mist. As with the movie (based on Stephen King’s novella), people start dying when a strange fog blankets their town. But because it’s a series they’ve had to add some family drama and teen angst and spread the focus to various locations around the town, not just the supermarket setting of the movie. The acting and special effects are pretty bad and there are a lot of people going off on their own, two minutes after watching someone die after doing exactly the same thing. So, it’s a good show if you like yelling at your TV “you idiot – as if you’d do that!”.

General chat – May 13

Time for a new general chat thread. What are you watching?
Mr 5 has just discovered Aladdin, so I’ve been forced to endure “A Whole New World” over and over.
The second season of Master of None has landed on Netflix, but we’re heading off on a family holiday in a few weeks so are trying not to peek before than.

Oh and can’t wait for The Handmaid’s Tale to start screening on SBS On Demand in early July. It gets rave reviews, and Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men, West Wing, Top of the Lake) is just good in everything. It also stars Samira Wiley (Poussey from Orange is the New Black).
If you haven’t read this book, here’s the synopsis: The Handmaid’s Tale is a 10-part series set in a totalitarian society in what was formerly part of the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birth-rate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalist regime that treats women as property of the state.
Moss stars as Offred, one of the few remaining fertile women, a woman forced into sexual servitude as a last desperate attempt to repopulate a devastated world. In this terrifying society where one wrong word could end her life, Offred navigates between Commanders, their cruel Wives, domestic Marthas, and her fellow Handmaids – where anyone could be a spy for Gilead – with one goal: to survive and find the daughter that was taken from her.

General chat – April 24

Who’s watching what?
I’m looking forward to this new show, The Aliens, which starts on ABC 2 on Wednesday.
The blurb says: Lewis Garvey is a border guard at the wall that separates humans from Morks. Most people, including Lewis, think Morks are scum. So when he finds out he’s half-alien his whole world is turned upside down. CAST: Michael Socha.
Socha used to play a werewolf in one of my fave shows, Being Human (the UK original, not the the US version) and he’s usually fun to watch.
It looks a bit Shaun of the Dead meets District 9.
You can watch the trailer here.
House Rules starts on Seven tomorrow, just before the MKR grand final, while MasterChef kicks off on Ten on Monday.
If you’re all cooking showed out, tuurn over to SBS at 7.35pm for House of Hypochondriacs. Its host is the doc with the long face from Embarrassing Bodies and his job is to convince hypochondriacs to stop worrying and start living.

New Bachelorette announced

As rumoured, it IS Sophie Monk!

I hope they get guys who genuinely want to have a relationship.
They are going to have to skew the blokes older, too, so hopefully fewer strippers this time round.

General chat for Easter

Happy Easter, everyone. Hope you were able to spend time with your families (if you were so inclined) and didn’t have to work.
Mr Juz and I managed to catch the season premiere of Doctor Who and quite enjoyed it. And we give the new companion the thumbs up. I could do without Matt Lucas, though, so hopefully he shuffles off soon.

Not much time for TV watching this weekend, although I tuned into one of my faves, Tiny Houses, and enjoyed Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations visit to Turkey on SBS Food this morning. However, it just reminded me there are no decent Turkish restaurants in Adelaide and I miss good pide.
We were up at 6am to hunt for Easter eggs in the garden so hoping for an early night tonight!

No MKR tonight

Just a reminder there’s no MKR for a week. It’s back Easter Mon, when the Seafood King cooks. Urgh.
So, what IS on?
I recommend The Lego Movie on Go! at 7pm or House Hunters Renovation on 9 Life at 7.30pm.
Or the ABC has Attenborough’s Life That Glows: “Join Sir David Attenborough and a team of the world’s leading scientists and deep sea explorers on a quest to reveal the secrets of living lights.”

New show: Instant Hotel

This sounds kind of interesting. I wonder if it’s sponsored by Airbnb?

Here’s the blurb from Channel 7:
Travelling the country in his work as an actor and television presenter, Luke Jacobz knows a thing or two about what makes a good hotel. Now he’s looking to put those years of research to good use as
host of Channel Seven’s new competition series, INSTANT HOTEL.
Tapping into the world-wide trend of home-owners renting out their properties as holiday accommodation, INSTANT HOTEL will see home owners vie for the title of best ‘instant hotel.’
Personal taste, precious belongings and price point are all open for judgement as teams travel the country and stay in newly created ‘hotels.’
“I’ve stayed in some of the best and worst hotels in the world,” says Luke who recently returned from Los Angeles to host the series. “But I think even the most mediocre hotel rooms can be improved with
the right personal touches.
“I’m really keen to see what lengths teams will go to in transforming their homes in order to give other teams a taste of that hotel experience. And it’s going to be great to be a fly-on-the-wall when personal
taste is not to everyone’s taste!”
Luke is well-known to Australian audiences for his work on Home and Away, The X Factor and Dancing with the Stars which he won in 2008.
Joining Luke on INSTANT HOTEL is series judge Juliet Ashworth who will score each hotel out of 10.
Juliet is an award-winning designer who’s worked on over 100 projects across Australia and Asia.
A former editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine, Juliet is now partner and creative director of an internationally noted design company specialising in luxury hotels and resorts.
“I’ve stayed in a number of homestay properties around the world – some fantastic and some not so fantastic – so I think this is a great opportunity to show people who are wanting to rent out their own
home, what works and what doesn’t!
“Everyone has different ideas on what makes a stylish home but, when you’re charging people to stay there, certain rules must apply. I’m looking for cleanliness, comfort and reasonable value for money.”
Instant Hotel is created by Seven Productions and will screen on Channel Seven in 2017.
