Tomorrow we leave Strasbourg and head to Regensburg. It will be our one night stopover on our way to Prague. I look forward to seeing if the accomodation is good. So far we have been happy, except that the apartment in Le Marais had too much crap in it.
Anyhow, not wanting to leave us with no memorable impression of Strassbourg, one lady gave us this…..

We heard Alsatian food was a little heavy, fatty and underdone.
I have to say; we are nearing Regensburg and all along to highway the fields/pastures have been stunning, like a work of art.
But no cows or sheep at all. Not a one in sight.
It continues to look grand.
And she-of-the-rump looks well fed.
We’re having internet difficulties in Germany. Our French bought sim was supposed to be for all of Europe but since crossing the border into Deutscland, almost nichts.
Bye bye Germany. Almost to Czechia.
Here’s our overnight. Shoebox but on a river.
We are now in Czechia heading toward Prague. Again the change between countries was immediate and distinct right at the border. For one thing the toilets change. The food changes. The appearance of everything changes. The girl behind the counter was watching tv while she gruffly served. The line of giant truckers who were all bruisers, stared as though they hadn’t seen a woman in ten years. I say that because I haven’t been ogled in 30 years. Creepy.
The countryside is still similar to the Alsace and Germany though.
Now fingers crossed this will post.
How creepy being ogled like that, especially in a strange country. Being the outsider always puts you at a disadvantage. I once took a ferry from Stockholm to Åbo in Finland and when I landed, I had a long drive north to where I was staying. It was around 9pm on a Saturday night when I got to Åbo and I stopped at a service station to buy some bottled water. There were a bunch of truck drivers there (probably waiting to load their trucks onto the ferry) and they were all chatting and looking at something on tv when I came in. I got my water, went to the counter to pay and when the cashier handed me the water I said thankyou in Swedish (just out of habit).
Suddenly, it was like a scene from Deliverance. The whole place went absolutely silent and everyone there turned to stare at me like an army of mongoose that had just spotted a cobra. It was the most unnerving feeling and I could not get out of there fast enough.
Yes, Ozwede, it is very creepy. I was just taken aback that they would be so starved for a woman that they would state at 64 year old. Unless they were all thinking of their mothers. Now that seems even creepier. 😛
Our home in Prague for the next 5 nights. Arriving at a new place is always an adventure, usually involving difficulties to navigate.

Yay. Since entering Prague, roaming internet has resumed. It’s exciting being in a country like Czechia. It seems so….foreign.
Anyhow, at the first roadhouse across the border I had a small soft dough bun that had what was likely nutella in the centre.
It’s cooler here today, overcast and sprinkling occasionally.
There’s nothing exceptional in the pic. No Czech bums. But this is the beginning.
Daisy, in case you’re homesick, the weather since you left has been mostly heavy rain, cold and windy. Today was an anomaly, 19 and sunny, a day to line-dry sheets.

Daisy, I forgot to mention it. German internet stinks. The problem is with the more rural areas where the infrastructure is really bad. It is an ongoing discussion for years now. France is a lot better with it. When I take the TGV/ICE from France to Germany, as soon as we cross the border, the internet isn’t working anymore or just barely.

Not only is France better than Germany for internet, but one cm over into Czech Republic and it was fully restored. That was weird.
We are loving Prague. It’s been an instant hit. The apartment is luxurious and smazing. One of the best we have jagged on this and our previous trip. We even have a spare large double bedroom. It’s way nicer than the pics show.
As for Prague itself, so far it’s been eye popping. Lots to see.

I noticed that too. Maybe reno. I haven’t seen any Prague gentlemen queuing outside. But in our apartment is wonderful. Of an era, beautiful but not run down. I am in my element. French Jane Eyre. No wait. I’m in Prague. The walls are about 60cm thick, inside and out. The doors are all really high, beautiful double doors to all the rooms. It’s just mmmmmm to me.

BTW, see the wall thickness above the doors. The doors are about 9 ft tall.

Even with all the hoards of tourists, Prague is bloody amazing. The architecture is classic fairytale, like in Box Trolls.

I wholeheartedly recommend Prague. It feels like the most crowded place I have ever been, and I’ve been to many places in India and China. I think what makes Prague different is that the hoards are tourists, like us, and lots of large tour groups milling around a group leader. But even so, the sights are spectacular, especially to anyone who loves old architecture, and who doesn’t.
I agree with you 100%. We love Prague and go there for weekend trips, especially at Christmas as the markets are beautiful. We live a 10 minute drive from Skavsta airport (Ryan Air calls it Stockholm, but it’s 100km south of the capital) and there are direct flights from here to Prague three times a week. We love wandering around and soaking up the atmosphere. You sound as though you are having a ball.
Well you are so fortunate. We went out after a fantastic meal, with music and laughter and conversation with friendly locals, and I said to Poppy, (Woolif) who was ready for bed at 9.30, “Let’s walk, because it’s most likely the only time in our lives we will be here”. It just might be one of my favourite places I have ever been. Mind you, being in a fabulous, but homely apartment helps the experience.
Prague is absolutely on my list, I’d be lying if I said anything else. I would love so much to visit such an old, beautiful city, to walk down those streets, to take a touristy photo on the Charles Bridge and sample some of the local cuisine. I picture, in my head, that the food in Prague would be life-changing.
Mind blowing, Windsong, especially for a gal from a hick town, where the big thrill for the town is a new one storey shopping mall, and nothing much is older than 100 years.
It’s even nice for just sitting around, which O am doing by the river ATM. With Charles bridge to my left.

Last night there was a fracas.
The cutest little pig-tailed 4year old, Chinese girl, was looking up with sad eyes, holding back years was looking up at some Chinese woman, yelling and barking in her face harshly, “Blah, blah, blah!!!!! Blah, blah, blah, blah!!!! ” While the little girl just stood helpless. It would have been different had the little girl been throwing a tantrum, but she just stood, helpless. People around were looking, sideways, mortified.
Ggggrrr. In I go. . “Stop that! Stop that! You’re a horrible woman”. “You’re a horrible woman”.
She probably didn’t understand English but she got the message and stopped and walked away.
Woolif, “Maybe you shouldn’t have interfered”.
Tonight we pack and “waaaaaaah”, leave Prague and our gorgeous old apartment. The best apartment I have stayed in (up there with Nice and Six last trip).
Tomorrow we drive and spend 1 night in Bratislava, then on to Croatia.
I have loved the relaxed, friendly people here, although not all are Czech. ♥️

From my FB: I am posting Thursday night because friends and family will wake 6 hours before we do. Tomorrow morning (Fri), we will get up early, say goodbye to beautiful Prague, and make our way to Bratislava in Slovakia. That should be different. I always thought the central European places might be … backward might not be the right word….but Prague is cultured and advanced. The countryside would be less so, but that is true anywhere, isn’t it. We have no idea what to expect from Bratislava. It will be a surprise. Perhaps Ozswede or Zhee know.
