Just Desserts premiere

Twitter says season 2 of Just Desserts starts Sunday at 7pm. According to the TV guide Seven has scheduled Bride and Prejudice in that time slot, so perhaps poor ratings have led to a quick switch.
Let’s hope Rachel Khoo does all the talking and Adriano Zumbo just nods wisely.
There’s a really interesting article about his financial woes here.
I just finished the latest GBBO, which pretty much spoils me for all other baking shows because I love it so much.

Zumbo’s Just Desserts ends tomorrow

So, Zumbo’s Just Desserts is apparently still going and tomorrow is the final, between Kate and Ali.
It screens 7.30pm-8.45pm on Seven. You can get a glimpse of what they have to bake on the official website promo here
Puh-lease can a free-to-air channel screen the latest season of Great British Bake Off so we can see how cooking shows should be done.

Viewers giving Zumbo the heave-ho

Zumbo’s Just Desserts, which Seven flogged like a dead profiterole during the Olympics, is losing viewers as The Block continues to pull strong numbers.
Details here at link
I had planned to recap Zumbo but I found myself surfing the net for much of the premiere as everything just took so darn long and, yet again, some contestants seem to be on it because they wanted to be famous rather than having a passion for cooking.

I like Rachel Khoo but she’s absolutely wasted on this show and Zumbo seems a nice bloke but he doesn’t have the charisma for TV. The outgoing Anna Polyviou (who created the smash death star dessert on the latest MasterChef) would be a much better choice but perhaps she’s contracted to Ten..
I wish an Australian channel would pick up the new season of Great British Bake Off to show everyone how it’s done.

Just Desserts is on Seven tonight from 7.30pm-8.50pm (sooo long!!). The blurb says: Using chocolate, the remaining dessert makers must produce their most swoon-worthy creation. The two weakest will head straight to the Zumbo Test, where a truly monumental challenge awaits them.

Zumbo’s Just Desserts starts tomorrow (Mon)

I like Zumbo, I like Rachel Khoo and, most of all, I like dessert, but I’m worried this is going to be a tizzied up version of Great British Bake Off, which is the world’s most perfect cooking show that should never be messed with.
Hopefully it will be a triumph, even if it is up against Australian Survivor so it will be catch-up TV for me.

Here are the contestants – They range from bricklayers to bouncers to stay-at-home mums.

Zumbo’s Just Desserts starts on Seven tomorrow (Monday) at 7.30pm and continues on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Australian Survivor and Zumbo air dates

According to Inside Survivor, the much-anticipated Australian Survivor will air Sunday, August 21 at 7.30pm – that’s the last day of the Olympics. Speculation is Channel 10 will run it twice a week so I hope the other day isn’t Mondays, as that’s when Zumbo’s show will air on Seven (starting the day after the Olympics).

Zumbo show update

Here’s a media release from Channel 7 from last week:
Top pastry chef Gigi Falanga joins a crème de la crème line-up on ZUMBO’S JUST DESSERTS.
She will appear alongside hosts and judges, Adriano Zumbo and Rachel Khoo, as Zumbo’s assistant.
Under their watchful eye, 12 dessert makers will put their sweet making skills to the test until the ultimate dessert king or queen is crowned.
Gigi will act as time keeper and report back to Adriano and Rachel. “I’ll be keeping a close eye on everything the contestants are doing,” she says. “I’ll be asking them lots of questions; is that the right consistency? Do the flavours work well together?”
Originally from Brazil, Gigi is one of the most exciting emerging talents in the Australian dessert industry.
After moving here in 2004, she has ascended the ranks of Sydney’s best fine dining restaurants including the Shangri-La Hotel, The Bathers’ Pavilion, Manta and Jonah’s.
Her combination of elegance, finesse and creativity has been moulded by some of the country’s best pastry masterminds including Anna Polyviou, John Ralley and Alfonso Ales.
Australia’s most passionate dessert makers are ready to make some magic in Zumbo’s candycoloured Dessert Factory.
They’ll bake. They’ll create. But only one will rise. Who will be Australia’s best?
ZUMBO’S JUST DESSERTS – an original Channel Seven concept from the makers of MY KITCHEN RULES – is coming to Seven after the Olympics.

The Olympics end August 21, so it’s while off yet.
And here’s a pic from Gigi’s Twitter. Amazing!

Khoo joins Zumbo’s new show

The Khoo is back! After an all-too-short stint on MKR, Rachel Khoo is coming back to Australia to help pastry chef extraordinaire Adriano Zumbo with his upcoming show, Just Desserts, which sounds like MasterChef, but with sweets. How much it’s like GBBO remains to be seen.
She’s a great pick, as in past TV outings on MasterChef Zumbo has looked like he’d rather be in the kitchen baking than speaking in front of the camera. I’m looking forward to this one – no air date as yet.
