General chat – Oct 10

New thread for general chat.
What’s everyone up to? It’s school holidays so I’ve been watching cooking shows with Mr 4 in between Numberjacks and Octonauts.

I watched the Dr.Phil Jon Benet Ramsey special. Dr.Phil’s getting $130 million a year.

He’s another one getting away with murder…..

daisy

That’s A LOT of sparkly cardigans for Robyn.

Gabby

Cheers Smythe I shall check it out. I find that most overseas shows I want to watch I end up having to pay for. Will let you know how I go.

Smythe

Hopefully you can find it and not have to pay.

Gabby

Yes I’m just reading about obtaining these things called VPN servers so I am able to watch different British shows that are usually unavailable to me. I have to install different codes in to my device. I’m not sure I want to do that.
I’m having trouble finding the British MKR. Have you got one of these VPN’s installed Smythe? If I knew someone who had done it I would go ahead and give it a shot.

daisy

My mum told me Wallander was worth watching…but then in one sentence, inadvertently told me everyone who DIDN’T do it. 😬 So I won’t be watching Wallander now.

Smythe

Thanks mum. 🙁

Gabby

Wallander is an excellent show, so your mum is spot on Daisy.
I am not as keen on the Britih version as I m on the Danish one. Not sure why the British felt the need to copy it, silly really.

daisy

It’s no good now that she told me in one sentence everyone who didn’t do it. No point after the spoiler.

daisy

Woh, Dr Phil was being a massive, arrogant bastard (more so than usual) today. He was doing his, “I won’t help you unless you grovel” routine. Philip! You don’t abuse your ‘patients’.

Smythe

Is anyone watching Project Runway?

Zhee

Yeps, looking forward to the next episode (I usually watch it on Friday’s after work^^). Cannot get enough of Tim Gunn!

Gabby

I’ve enjoyed the couple of Australian ones they have had. Would like to see another.

Juz

I saw the premiere and hope to catch up soon. I love stacking them up so I can shotgun through three at once.

Fijane

Do we have a thread for the US Survivor season? or are we holding off until the Aus one is finished?

daisy

I am enjoying the US so far.

Fijane

I am too. I’m still not a fan of dividing the tribes along stereotypes, but what makes it interesting in this one are the people in each tribe who buck the stereotype. They are the ones who feel uncomfortable right from the start and who wish that they had been placed elsewhere. And they have to put on a front for a while, trying to pretend that they are not outsiders.

Bob Dylan wins nobel prize for literature.

Windsong

I guess it just wasn’t my year.

There’s always 2017 :).

Should anyone be wondering how Bob might win it……

“Highlands”

Well, my heart’s in the highlands, gentle and fair
Honey suckle bloomin’ in the wildwood air
Bluebells blazin’ where the Aberdeen waters flow
Well, my heart’s in the highlands, I’m gonna go there when
I feel good enough to go.

Windows were shakin’ all night in my dreams
Everything was exactly the way that it seems
Woke up this mornin’ and I looked at the same old page
Same old rat race, life in the same old cage.

I don’t want nothin’ from anyone, ain’t that much to take
Wouldn’t know the difference between a real blonde and a fake
Feel like a prisoner in a world of mystery
I wish someone would come and push back the clock for me.

Well, my heart’s in the highlands, wherever I roam
That’s where I’ll be when I get called home
The wind it whispers to the buck-eyed trees of rhyme
Well, my heart’s in the highlands, I can only get there one step at a time.

I’m listening to Neil Young, I gotta turn up the sound
Someone’s always yellin’, “Turn him down”
Feel like I’m driftin’, driftin’ from scene to scene
I’m wondering what in the devil could it all possibly mean.

Insanity is smashin’ up against my soul
You could say I was on anything but a roll
If I had a conscience, well I just might blow my top
What would I do with it anyway, maybe take it to the pawn shop.

My heart’s in the highlands at the break of dawn
By the beautiful lake of the black swan
Big white clouds like chariots that swing down low
Well, my heart’s in the highlands, only place left to go.

I’m in Boston town, in some restaurant
I got no idea what I want
Or maybe I do but, I’m just really not sure
Waitress comes over, nobody in the place but me and her.

Well, it must be a holiday, there’s nobody around
She studies me closely as I sit down
She got a pretty face, with long white shiny legs
I said, “Tell me what I want,” she say, “You probably want hard boiled eggs.”

I say, “That’s right, bring me some.”
She says, “We ain’t got any, you picked the wrong time to come.”
Then she says, “I know you’re an artist, draw a picture of me.”
I said, “I would if I could but I don’t do sketches from memory.”

Well, she then, she says, “I’m right here in front of you, or
haven’t you looked?”
I say, “All right, I know but I don’t have my drawing book.”
She gives me a napkin, she say, “You can do it on that.”
I say, “Yes I could but I don’t know where my pencil is at.”

She pulls one out from behind her ear
She says, “All right now go ahead, draw me, I’m stayin’ right here.”
I make a few lines and I show it for her to see
Well, she takes her napkin and throws it back and says, “That
don’t look a thing like me.”

I said, “Oh, kind Miss, it most certainly does.”
She say, “You must be jokin’,” I say, “I wish I was.”
Then she says, “You don’t read women authors do ya?” at least
that’s what I think I hear her say
Well, I said, “How would you know and what would it matter anyway?”

Well she says, “You just don’t seem like you do.” I said,
“You’re way wrong.”
She says “Which ones have you read then?” I say, “I’ve read
Erica Jong.”
She goes away for a minute and I slide out, out of my chair
I step outside back to the busy street but nobody is goin’ anywhere.

Well, my heart’s in the highlands with the horses and hounds
Way up in the border country far from the towns
With the twang of the arrow and the snap of the bow
My heart’s in the highlands, I can’t see any other way to go.

Every day is the same thing, out the door
Feel further away than ever before
Some things in life it just gets too late to learn
Well, I’m lost somewhere, I must have made a few bad turns.

I see people in the park forgettin’ their troubles and woes
They’re drinkin’ and dancin’, wearin’ bright colored clothes
All the young men, with the young women lookin’ so good
Well, I’d trade places with any of ’em in a minute, if I could.

I’m crossing the street to get away from a mangy dog
Talkin’ to myself in a monologue
I think what I need might be a full length leather coat
Somebody just asked me if I’ve registered to vote.

The sun is beginnin’ to shine on me
But it’s not like the sun that used to be
The party’s over and there’s less and less to say
I got new eyes, everything looks far away.

Well, my heart’s in the highlands at the break of day
Over the hills and far away
There’s a way to get there and I’ll figure it out somehow
Well, I’m already there in my mind, and that’s good enough for now.

daisy

Phew. I just got back from my morning ride.

Bob

I can’t believe this is real and not posed. Who on earth would think that it’s okay to dress like this? Oh………right……

Zhee

The woman who stages a robbery in Paris? 😀

daisy

Once you get past the lack of underwear, you see the socks, cute little bolero, bow in hair and teddy head phones. It’s not like she hasn’t tried.

Bob

I give her 10 points for trying.
Seriously. I admire people who don’t give a stuff.

daisy

Yeah, and wear jeans and a tee maybe. There’s not giving a stuff and then there’s just fail.

brain dead dave

Nice shoes,daisy.

daisy

Cinderella only forgot her glass slipper.
It’s good that she has her bag covering her fur purse.

brain dead dave

Sounds like you failed the pressure test, greedy Gaz. Wanderful. Love it!

Expect even more grumpiness than usual from Gaz next year. He can cry into his Maggie Beer.

Thanks for the link, Maz.

brain dead dave

I just saw that Michelle Bridges lost in court against a pap, who supposedly “traumatised” her. The judge might have said there wasn’t a lot of weight to her argument. Commando didn’t look too happy with the pap. They were the biggest losers.

Zhee

I can totally see something like that happen in France and in Germany as well as we will have elections in 2017….

Simply. Sick.

Fijane

Makes me glad that our electoral commission is so pedantic, even though it drives voters mad.

Bob

Initially, it made me uncomfortable mainly because all those who have made it this far are really good.
But then, of course, X Factor is by definition a competition and in the end there can only be one winner. Every decision is: are they better than the person sitting next to them – Yes/No.
And then I was comfortable with the format.

daisy

I was only ok knowing that Mel will retrieve the good ones. It’s a comp but it’s kind of a cruel way to do it.

Bob

I think all of these competitions are cruel. It’s like trial by public humiliation. But when I mention this to my nearest and dearest 14 year old, he rolls his eyes before snuggling back deeper into his iPhone.

Fijane

Isn’t the competition between the judges? The singers are just the ammunition.

daisy

Well said, but it’s probably only really about making money and the contestant are like chawing tobakky.
Chew and spit.

Eliza

Oh I really like Amalia! She is good. I think they have some good singers this year and the “Unders” have some decent talent that were let go of.

I got really frustrated with tonight’s show. Guy, in my opinion, has the weakest category and it was like he was trying to choose the worst of the bunch. I could not believe that he let Ruby go. I thought she was great, sounded good and looked good (ha, as they like to say) and it was a farce she was booted out of a seat. I thought the Chyna girl (or however she spells it) was a yeller, the Davey guy should have been replaced by Dave and not sure why Zebulon (?) got to sit at all as his voice is unremarkable compared to others. I hope Mel snaps up Ruby for sure and there were some others I liked that missed out too.

daisy

Yes, Eliza. I liked Ruby too. She is gorgeous, isn’t she. Beautiful, but very natural in looks and personality. I like her off-beat style. I wonder who Mel will keep. Probanly Bailey Spalding. I missed Adam’s night, I think.

Eliza

Yeah and not in that pretentious “I’m so natural” way if that makes sense! It was such a shame. There were others I much preferred over Baily. I thought they sexed her up a little much for her age. She’s 18 I know but still.. Maybe that’s just me.

daisy

I know what you mean about Ruby. She’s a rare gem. She likes her job at the fish factory but enjoys the opportunity not to smell of fish. 😙 It’s like she doesn’t realize her natural beauty and that includes how she speaks, moves and behaves.
Expect them to make Bailey even sexier. They might ruin Ruby bcoz you can’t create what she has.

daisy

On the Australind, heading to Perth. Staying in Freo with a friend. She has bought us tickets to a concert at a pub. She is wilder than I am. I am out of my nanna comfort zone. Damn! I just remembered, I forgot my pepper spray.

Juz

Noice. What’s the concert?

daisy

I will let you know when I know. It’s a few bands.

daisy

Juz, here is my bed for tonight. My friend does comfort. 😊

Juz

Lovely!

daisy

It looks single in that photo but it’s a double. Her whole place is like that. She even has a 4 storey tower called a ‘widow’s watch’ that looks out to sea.
It’s an old house with all the interesting nooks and features of an old house. Maybe about 100 years old.
